High-speed 3D printing with the UltiMaker S8 and S6 3d printers

High-speed FFF 3D printers are now widely available on the market. But the new UltiMaker S8 and S6 are not only four times faster than their predecessor models, they are also more precise—thanks to the new motion planner “Cheetah”—delivering even better print quality. Unlike other high-speed printers that merely compensate for skipped steps and over- or under-extrusion caused by high speeds and accelerations, Cheetah is the first FFF 3D printer system to operate with variable accelerations. The result: visibly and audibly smoother movements—much like a race car navigating a curve along the ideal line with optimal deceleration and acceleration.

This new type of motion planning has been made possible through upgraded, more powerful electronics, new feeders that grip the filament firmly from both sides, and new high-flow print cores. This means that the UltiMaker S8 / S6 does not require special high-flow filaments; instead, all standard materials can be printed at higher speeds.

While the S8 comes with integrated fine particle filtration, the S6 can be optionally upgraded with a separate Air Manager for this function if required. Both models are available with a PEI-coated flexible build plate; the S6 is also optionally available with a glass build plate—for example, for food-related applications.

Safety is a top priority at UltiMaker. For instance, the printers comply with the ISA/IEC 62443-4-2 standard. They can be operated either through the internal company network or via the cloud-based UltiMaker Digital Factory system, which is hosted on servers located in the European Union (subject to EU data protection regulations). All important functions (such as print job submission, firmware updates, etc.) can be carried out without an internet connection—you remain in full control of your precious data.
