Save Time and Improve Outcome of Spinal Fusion Surgery
With its patient-specific SpineBox™ solution, Anatomics is revolutionizing spinal fusion surgery. The customized kit reduces surgery time, improves outcomes, and optimizes resource use – a real advancement for both surgeons and patients.
Anatomics has developed an innovative solution called SpineBox™ – a tailored kit that uses individual patient CT scan data to create personalized devices and pre-plan spinal fusion hardware selection. The patient-specific components are produced using 3D printing (3DP), specifically with EOS selective laser sintering (SLS) technology using the FORMIGA P 110 and PA 2200, a Nylon 12 material.
The SpineBox™ kit significantly simplifies minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion surgery (MIS TLIF) and can be adapted for most spinal fusion techniques. Using CT scan data and planning software developed by Anatomics, a personalized solution is designed for each MIS TLIF procedure, including screws, rods, and an intervertebral spacer (fusion cage).
The SpineBox™ kit includes the following components: a 1:1 scale 3D-printed model of the patient’s spine, produced using EOS SLS technology with PA 2200, is provided to the surgeon and patient for preoperative review. Patient-specific SpineTube™ soft tissue retractors and anatomically matched positioning templates for the surgery are also manufactured from EOS PA 2200 and sterilized. Based on preoperative measurements, the required titanium implants are pre-selected and packaged together with the SLS Nylon 12 instruments, then delivered to the hospital as the SpineBox™ kit prior to surgery.
The SpineBox™ method for preoperative planning and manufacturing of customized devices has the potential to deliver significant benefits to healthcare systems in terms of surgical outcomes and cost efficiency.
