Additive Manufacturing’s Role in Cutting CO₂ Emissions

Additive Manufacturing is not inherently a sustainable production method. However, when applied strategically to the right applications and materials, it can drive significant CO₂ reductions across the value chain. This presentation focuses on how to identify these opportunities.

Understand the sustainability potential of Additive Manufacturing

Sustainability in Additive Manufacturing requires more than good intentions, it demands data. In this presentation, we explore how to quantify the true environmental impact of AM across the entire value chain. We'll introduce our CO₂ footprint calculator for metal and polymer AM processes, which enables data-driven insights into emissions from production.

Additionally, we’ll highlight the Akropolys research project, which expands this analysis to the use phase of AM parts. Together with other sustainability initiatives, these efforts provide a holistic view of where and how AM can contribute to more climate-friendly manufacturing. It also highlights, in which cases AM is NOT the most sustainable manufacturing technology. This provides guidance on making the right decisions when considering AM in a sustainability context.

Learn where and how AM can contribute to more sustainable products and how to unlock its true potential for climate impact.
